A disadvantage is that there may be no text available that is completely appropriate; an advantage is that one can conceptualize such a text and try out versions of it while teaching the course. My course in infant and toddler assessment and early intervention is such a course, and this text has been crafted from the experiences I have had in teaching it. I use a team teaching approach because I believe that university teachers should provide models of the behaviors that students are to learn. The course is intended to meet the needs not only of early childhood special educators but also of the wide range of professionals who must now work together as members of early intervention teams to carry out the mandates initiated by Public Law 99-457.
