Transpor ters Most of the drug smugglers in our sample could be described as transporters or managers of the transport. Every load transported into the United States was organized by a group of people, of whom one was in charge of transportation (which may include transportation from a mid-shipment location); one was in charge of distribution; and one was in charge of the money. Transportation groups may work for an organization or a contact in Colombia or may be independent and work through recommendations either in the country of origin or the destination.
